The whole island points south.
Ninety minutes of switchbacks from Castries drops you between the two peaks: Sulphur Springs steaming at the roadside, Toraille falling into its own pool, Tet Paul looking straight down the ridge to the sea. Most first trips give this a full day. Most wish they had given it two.

The town day

Reduit Beach in the morning, the forts on Pigeon Island after lunch, and Gros Islet in the evening if it happens to be Friday, when the street closes and the grills come out. Short drives, no dawn start, easy to fit around a late flight home.

The west coast saves its best for six.
The sun drops behind the ridge in about twenty minutes and the whole channel turns copper while it happens. Boats leave Rodney Bay and Castries in the late afternoon to be out there when it does, and the good ones come back in the dark with the music still on.
The forest starts ten minutes inland.
Trams glide through the treetops above Babonneau, ziplines cross the valleys at Morne Coubaril, and the trails toward Edmund stay wet enough to hear frogs at noon. All of it is a short drive from the coast road.
Cocoa on the tree, rum in the barrel.
The estate above Soufriere lets you roast and grind your own bar. The distillery on the Roseau valley floor still takes cane from the fields around it. Both fill a slow afternoon and both send you home carrying something.
Boat down, road back.
The land-and-sea day is St Lucia’s own invention: south along the coast by boat past the fishing villages, ashore at Soufriere for the volcano and a waterfall, then home over the mountain road through the banana fields. It costs more than a single stop and it shows you twice as much.

South to Soufriere
Leave early, take the west-coast road, and stack the crater, a waterfall and Tet Paul before lunch in the town. The Pitons are in view for most of it.
